pressing the book
close to my heart.

This book, “A Gospel of Bones” calls for that closeness. It is protection. It is comfort. It also did not come to play.

Course Overview/Description:

Author, teaching artist, and poet, Vogue M. Robinson, will lead a series of workshops where we activate our voice via poetry.

Participants should be willing to experiment with their writing and interested in learning new poetic forms.

Participants will write several poems during the workshops and be asked to share their work aloud and discuss their intention behind the work.

The ideal participant is truly interested in poetry and appreciates poetry in all of its forms.

From this class, participants will gain a clearer sense of what type of poetry moves them, which poetic devices they enjoy employing, and each participant will receive a book of poetry from a local author.

March 2016 - We bought a house
March 2017 - We got married
March 2018 - We lost my Mother-in-law
March 2019 - We lost Gramma
March 2020 - Y’all know.
March 2021 - Still here

I haven’t fully celebrated my birthday since 2017. I couldn’t celebrate while my mother-in-law was in the hospital...even though she held on until 3/18.

I couldn’t push myself to celebrate my life 14 days after Gramma died in this house we bought. The house that purposefully has 3 bedrooms so she could live with us.

I have to subtract 1987 from 2021 to figure out my age...cause I feel like I’ve lost years in a blur between blood transfusions & deaths.

So, I’m just watching the clock count down.
Thankful for my blessings.
Cant say I’m ready for what’s to come...
But I can say, I am walking with faith.
I accept the good things,
naw, the great things,
that are on their way.

Thank you to @discoverylv the Discovery Children’s Museum for allowing me to virtually work with students to create a Poet-tree & honor of Black poets! Each student wrote work inspired by lines of poetry from Damien McClendon and Nikki Giovanni. Today, I get to go in and write their lines onto the roots of the tree.

The best part, the tree will be on display beyond the month of February🥰

Throwback to 2013. My playmom put me in a nice dress from her closet & my friend @punkrockqueerwitch took me to a wedding, because I love weddings. And then I think we were deciding on free-styling or attempting a formal dance?
